Kanallos Kanellopoulos and his three young sons started out by distributing food throughout the mid-Atlantic region in the late 80’s. After a number of years, Kanallos noticed the demand for Philly cheesesteak meat and decided to dedicate his time and effort to filling that need.
In January 1996, Kanallos and his family officially opened Drexel Foods in Philadelphia, PA; the original home of the cheesesteak. They began producing a variety of beef and chicken steaks. In only a few years’ time, Drexel Foods had outgrown their warehouse and needed to move to a larger one. Kanallos retired and his three sons took over the business; under leadership of the eldest, Ted.
Today, Drexel Foods services customers up and down the East Coast as well as some in the western United States. Drexel Foods offers more 20 different types of beef and chicken steaks. The steaks come in either the traditional flat style or the popular puck style.
